I’ve got some time what should I see in New Orleans?
Avery Island: The Home Of Tabasco (and alligators)
The Insectarium, Audubon Zoo, and The Aquarium of the Americas
What’s the deal with drinking in public?
No state imposed restrictions on on-premise hours. “24 hour” bars are common in New Orleans and in Jefferson Parish. Alcohol can be consumed in plastic cups in the streets of New Orleans and taken from club-to-club if the establishment allows it. Otherwise it depends on the locality. Click here for more information
Speaking of drinking… where’s the night life action?
Well, there’s the very obvious ‘Bourbon Street’. You should start at about Canal and Bourbon and walk down Bourbon. Be aware that parking at night in the French Quarter is difficult. Plus, if you plan to drink, you may want to take a cab.
For more local night life areas, try Frenchmen Street (lots of live music; Reggae, Jazz, and more) Frenchmen has cheaper drinks and rarely has cover charges, and is much less ‘touristy’ than Bourbon.
For a classy bar, popular among locals, try The Columns Hotel Bar.
And a trip to New Orleans isn’t complete without a drive-thru Daiquiri. Get one on your way into or out of town, because it’s on the way to/from the airport.

What should I do if there is a hurricane?
Step 1: Watch the news. If a hurricane is on it’s way, you will hear about it about a week or so beforehand, and the news will track its progress.
Step 2: Evacuate! If you’re worried and there’s a hurricane in the area, drive to northern Louisiana, Texas, or Mississippi. It is best to make this decision as soon as an evacuation is suggested, if not before, just so you’ll miss the traffic.
Step 3: Call your friends/family and give them a phone number you can be reached at. If a hurricane hits anywhere near New Orleans, cell phones will probably stop working.
Step 4: If you don’t think the hurricane will hit (very few do) and you choose not to evacuate, host or attend a hurricane party.
